Tree Sparks interviews Hoby, a Plant Biology student from the University of Antananarivo in celebration of International Women’s Day 2019.
What do you study?
I study at University of Antananarivo. I am in 5th year in plant biology and ecology.
I think the forest and the key to biodiversity conservation and it’s a way to achieve the goal of sustainable development.
Madagascar has lots of endemic plant species and trees – too many to choose from!
What do you believe is the biggest challenge facing forestry today?
Today’s biggest challenges for forestry are climate change accompanied by population growth.
At the end of my studies, I will contribute to the restoration of urban cities with the aim of raising citizens’ awareness of the importance of the forest and mitigating climate change.
Advice for future female foresters?
Yes, never give up our generation depends on us. Women have a great asset in the establishment of a better world.
